Milan – There is great fervor that animates the J/70 Italian Class and, more generally, the universe that gravitates around the monotype designed by J/Boats and now produced in almost two thousand units: new feedback of this happened yesterday, Tuesday 7 February, day set for the opening of the entry period for the first edition of the J/70 Corinthian World Cup.
The organizers of the event (June 1-4), assigned last year by J/70 International Class to the J/70 Italian Class and Fraglia Vela Riva, saw the 80 available berths sold out in 72 minutes, with the first 56 entries arrived in less than half an hour: more than one subscriber per minute on the average who underlines the great expectation for what is already reported as the most important one design appointment of 2023. This is due to the venue chosen to host the event, already the scene of the J/70 Cup leg most attended ever (75 crews present in 2022), and to its format, which reserves the event for non professional teams, in the world of sailing known as Corinthians.
“Although we expected an important response, we did not imagine a flood wave like the one that affected the Race Office and the Class Secretariat: the requests have arrived without interruption since 3 pm and we are satisfied with how the systems have held up the onslaught of those aiming to secure a place in Riva del Garda. Apart from a few slight slowdowns due to server overload, those who were ready to register managed to secure their space and this morning the waiting list counts about ten crews, ready to take over for any dropouts or those who will not regularize their registration within 48 hours – explains the president of the J/70 Italian Class, Federico Siragna – In addition to paving the way for a great J/70 Corinthian World Cup, such numbers increase the expectations for the J/70 Cup which, at least in the first half, will be used by a good number of international crews to prepare the CWC. We also expect important numbers on the occasion of Malcesine event, which we have purposely scheduled a short distance from Riva just a few weeks after the conclusion of the CWC, and at the Italian Championship in Lerici, the season closing event with a double meaning“.
