Lerici, 19 October 2024 – After the no-wind no-race on Friday, the series of regattas of the J/70 Cup of Lerici has started, the final act of the 2024 season organized by J/70 Italian Class: at the end of the weekend, not only the winner of the stage will be proclaimed, but also the overall Italian Champion and the best crew of the J/70 Cup 2024 season, which up to now has been based in Cala Galera, Riva del Garda, Malcesine and now Lerici.
The weather, even today, was not particularly kind to the over 30 crews from 10 nations that gathered on the docks of the Circolo Vela Erix: despite the pouring rain, three races were still completed, the maximum allowed by the regulations for today, with winds that were initially fading, then gradually increasing to around 10 knots.
The best crew of the day was Notaro Team by Luca Domenici: with partial scores of 6-1-7, Notaro Team wins the last Garmin Cup of the 2024 season (up for grabs in each leg to the best crew of the day on Saturday) and regulates the standings with a 4-point advantage over Why Not #CAIM by Massimo Rama and 7 over J-Curve by Mauro Roversi. G-Spot by Matteo Marenghi Vaselli is currently fourth, while the Americans of Rowdy, current leaders of the season ranking and winners of the first and third races today, are fifth overall.
The Corinthian ranking is regulated by the aforementioned Why Not #CAIM, followed by Wanderlust by Sofia Giondi and Wildcard by Seafra Guilfoyle.
Tomorrow, the final day, up to 4 races can be completed by 3:00 pm. The awards ceremony will be held in the enchanting setting of the Piazzetta di Lerici at the end of the regattas.
The 2024 J/70 Italian Class season is supported by Lincoln International, Gottifredi Maffioli, Garmin, VelaMania, Zhik, UtilGraph, Gin Vento, Cantine Tinazzi and OneOcean Foundation.
